Spokane Insurance Office Party. No more secret Santa!
The AAG Spokane Insurance team had an excellent Christmas party yesterday. We closed our doors a few hours early on Thursday December, 15th 2011. Instead of the traditional gift exchange, we decided to do something different. A few months earlier when we were tearing up the little pieces of paper with people’s names on them for the annual secret Santa at the Spokane insurance office, it occurred to a few of us at once. It all started with the comment by Sharon, “aren’t you tired of always getting candles, gloves, and scarves for these types of events?” I concurred, as one only needs a couple of pairs of gloves before they start to accumulate and become next year’s secret Santa prize. Of course limiting the spending to $20 has an impact in gift selection, but who wants the added stress of trying to pick a gift our for a colleague or superior that might end up biting you in the rear down the line. We decided that instead of buying the token $20 Secret Santa contribution, and risking embarrassment and distain that comes with buying gifts for co-workers, we decided to take a collection, and donate the proceeds to a local charity. That is where the discussion became heated! Do we donate it to the veterans?…the homeless?…the animals at the local shelter? Opinions differed as to what to do with the more than $200 we collected. In the end, we decided to make the donation to AAG Insurance’s Animal Shelter Assistance Program. Click here to see our program. The members of the Spokane insurance office has done several things to assist the local animals shelters. A few months back we hosted an pet adoption day at our Spokane insurance office with Spokanimal, and we were successful in finding homes for 11 dogs and 3 cats! (all the dogs the they brought). In addition, AAG Spokane Insurance has become a drop off station for all unwanted pet supplies and food. We make sure it gets into the hands of Spokanimal.
